Tracing Ancestral Spaces

artistic research within the Heritage trajectory

During this artistic research we ask ourselves the following questions: How can we create spiritual and magical virtual spaces that are sacred and safe(er) and function as a communal place for mourning, honoring, remembering, confronting and celebrating our ancestors through community building and collective storytelling? How can these spaces help to (re)establish the inner journey of connecting with ancestors? In this way we investigate the ever-present, but sometimes intangible or invisible traces of various information and/or knowledge left behind by our ancestors. Based on this, we create virtual imaginative spaces where ancestors are remembered, honored and celebrated with the help of visual artist Joran De Roover.

During 'Tracing Ancestral Spaces' we also expand our gathering practice. During these gatherings we come together with whoever wants to share about the multi-layered feelings around ancestrality through talking circles, visualizations, movement exercises and drawing/writing/sculpting.
